Privacy Policy

Bhajan Lekh is a lyrics website. You can read every bhajan on it without an account, and we don't ask you for anything to do so. This page describes exactly what is stored and who else can see it.

What we store on your device

A few small things are saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers how you like to read. They never leave your device and we cannot see them:

  • Theme — whether you chose the light or dark appearance.
  • Lyrics text size — the size you picked with the अ− / अ+ buttons on a bhajan page.
  • Favourite bhajans — the bhajans you marked with the पसंदीदा button, which is how the पसंदीदा भजन page is built. If you are not logged in, this list exists only in this browser and we never receive it. If you are logged in, it is also saved to your account so it follows you to another device — see below.
  • Bhajans you liked — so the heart stays filled when you come back. Pressing the heart sends us nothing but the fact that a count went up or down by one — no name, no account, nothing that identifies you.

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of them.

Accounts

Reading requires no account, and neither does marking a bhajan as a favourite. If you do register, we store the username and email address you enter, and a hashed password — never the password itself. Signing in sets an authentication cookie so you stay logged in; signing out clears it and also removes the favourites list from this browser.

The only reader data an account holds is your list of favourite bhajans, kept so it is available on any device you sign in from. When you sign in, favourites you had marked while logged out are added to that list. Deleting your account deletes it along with everything else we hold about you. We do not use accounts for marketing and we never email you.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to see which bhajans are read and roughly where visitors come from. It records things like page URL, referrer, approximate location, device and browser. We use it in aggregate — we do not try to identify individual readers.

Advertising

Ads on this site are served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or device identifiers to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.

You can turn off personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info/choices. Turning personalisation off does not remove ads; it makes them less relevant.

Embedded content

Bhajan pages can embed a YouTube video. Nothing is requested from YouTube until you actually press play — until then you only see a still image. Once you play a video, YouTube receives your request and applies its own privacy policy.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your data.
  • We do not run a newsletter and have no comment section, so there is nothing to subscribe to and no comment data to keep.
  • We do not ask for payment details anywhere on this site.

Your choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings — the site will still work, though ads may be less relevant and your theme and text-size preferences will reset. If you have an account and want it and its data deleted, email us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the page and the date at the top. Material changes will be described rather than quietly replaced.
